Can You Wear Fresh Fragrances In The Winter

Fresh fragrances are always a favorite in the summer. That invigorating scent is what gets a lot of people through a hot summer day. If you’ve ever smelled fresh colognes for men and women, you would know just how much of a refreshing boost one sniff can give you which is why it’s one of the most popular and most well-loved fragrance family/category out of them all.

I know you’re sometimes tempted to wear your favorite fresh smelling perfume in fall or maybe even winter. Should you, though? Or should you save that longing for your summer scent and stick to your warm, musky autumn perfumes instead?

Should You Really Forego Fresh Fragrances When Summer Is Over?

If you’ve ever been on a perfume-themed forum online or if you’ve ever asked a fragrance enthusiast about their favorite perfume, you may already know that some people have different favorites for different seasons.

Although there are perfumes that smell good all year round, there are definitely those that smell best on your skin during a certain time of the year. Some fresh colognes for men smell amazing in the summer but smell nothing more than aftershave cologne during the colder months. The same goes for ladies’ fresh fragrances, too.

No, it’s not just a personal preference thing. As it turns out, there is a bit of science behind this. Warm weather easily brings out the best of your perfume which is why light fragrances like Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue and Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio (which, by the way, is one of the top fresh colognes for men) are great. Add to that fruity, aquatic notes and you’ve got yourself a winner for the hot months of summer!

In winter, when it’s colder, the impact of scents are slightly lessened which is what makes this season the perfect time to wear heavy perfumes like Dior Sauvage and Twilly by Hermes. These heavy fragrances are often made with powerful notes like amber, sandalwood, and pepper.

If you’re really into your summer fragrance and you’re confident that it’ll work for winter, though, you can always just go heavy with it by applying more and re-applying more often. That means that you could possibly pull off a winter perfume in the summer, too, if you go light on the application. What’s important is that you like how you smell and you’re happy with the perfume you’re wearing!
